Joe Hagan (BA, Drew University; MA, PhD, University of Kentucky) is Professor of Political Science and Director of the International Studies Program. He also serves at the Chair of the Department of Political Science. He has taught at WVU since 1991, having previously taught at Goucher College and the University of Wyoming. He currently teaches courses in “War and Peace” and U.S. and comparative foreign policy, and was a 1993-94 Pew Faculty Fellow in International Affairs at Harvard University. His research concerns the domestic political sources of foreign policy as they relate to war, peace, and change in international politics. His articles have appeared in journals such as Foreign Policy, International Organization, and International Studies Review. The author or co-editor of three books, he is currently working his fourth book titled Oppositions, Leaders, and War: Domestic Politics and the Road to International Confrontation. He is the recipient of the WVU Foundation Award for Outstanding Teaching and the Benedum Distinguished Scholar Award for Outstanding Research in the Social Sciences.
