Ken Martis is Professor of Geography and received his BA at the University of Toledo and his PhD at the University of Michigan. Professor Martis has taught at WVU since 198x, he teaches core classes in physical geography, political geography, and the geography of xxxxx. His research interests concern the geographical aspects of American political culture and the geographical dimensions of legislative and parliamentary institutions. He has published series of prominent historical atlases related to congressional politics. These include The Historical Atlas of State Power in Congress: 1790-1990; The Historical Atlas of Political Parties in the United States Congress: 1789-1989, and the Historical Atlas of United States Congressional Districts: 1789-1989. His research was recognized by the university in his receiving one of the first Benedum Distinguished Scholar Awards for Research in the Social Sciences.
