Regional Focus
Students complete nine hours of coursework focused on the history, culture, geography, politics, religion, or language of a particular region.
- Africa/Middle East - this regional focus offers courses focused on Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and the Middle East. Students select from courses focusing on the region’s political systems, development, geography, culture, religions, history, or an advanced language course in French or Arabic. A study abroad experience to the region `is highly recommended.
- Asia - this regional focus offers courses focused mainly on East Asia and, in particular, Japan and China. Students select from courses focusing on the region’s politics, cultures, history, philosophies, religions or an advanced language course in Chinese or Japanese. A study abroad experience to the region is highly recommended.
- Europe - this regional focus offers courses general courses on European affairs and specific countries within the region. Students typically focus on a particular country such as France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain or the United Kingdom. Students select from courses focusing on the region’s politics, cultures, geography, history, or an advanced language course in French, Italian, German, Russian, or Spanish. A study abroad experience to the region is highly recommended.
- The Americas - this regional focus offers courses focused on the Western Hemisphere. Students select from courses focusing on the region’s political systems, cultures, history, or an advanced language course in Spanish. A study abroad experience to the region is highly recommended.
